We recently read this column by Keep Food Legal’s Executive Director Baylen Linnekin, which previews several policy debates that are likely to come up in 2014 – some might even involve your kitchen table.  Linnekin’s breakdown succinctly summarizes why politicians shouldn’t be meddling in families’ food choices.  And he mentions soda tax proposals:

“Research shows food sin taxes don’t work. So does real life. After Denmark implemented a series of food sin taxes, the country was forced to scrap the laws because they were bad for business, caused job losses and didn’t work.”

We agree.  Our elected officials should focus on what matters most – education, safety and jobs – and leave the grocery shopping to us.
