We at Sip & Savor occasionally come across a column that brings to light a fresh perspective. Today we read Esther Cepeda’s recent Washington Post column which covers what everyday consumers and moms really want and need. In "Giving moms a fighting chance," she praised the beverage industry’s new Calories Count™ Vending Program, which will launch in municipal buildings in the cities of Chicago and San Antonio in early 2013.  The program will provide clear calorie information on selection buttons of vending machines along with a reminder that "calories count."  This is all part of our ongoing efforts to help consumers make the beverage choice that's right for them.

Cepeda states that:

“If this becomes the standard, it will confirm to my sons what mom’s been saying all along: It is the total number of calories in a food product, not the per-serving calories, that counts…providing honest calorie counts and more low-sugar choices truly arms me for the food battles parents fight every day”

We hope you will take a moment to check out Esther Cepeda’s piece.  And let us know what you think on Facebook and Twitter.
