As the weather heats up and summer approaches, many are renewing their commitment to eat healthier and exercise to get in shape for the season.  Fitness goals are important to make, but remember - being physically active doesn’t have to mean running a marathon.

In fact, the American Heart Association has some great tips on how to incorporate physical activity into your daily life - at home, at the office and at play.   So, get out and enjoy the sunshine with a nice long walk, visit with your colleagues instead of sending an email - even spring cleaning burns calories!

But physical activity is just one piece of the "calories in, calories out" equation that will get you on your way to a balanced lifestyle.  It's also important to pay attention to the "calories in" component.  So, be mindful of what you eat and drink, and know that there are a variety of foods and beverages can fit into a balanced, healthy lifestyle.  Make sure you're getting the nutrients that your body needs from things such as fruits, vegetables and grains as well.  But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your favorite treats!

And remember, there's no miracle cure for weight loss.  Weight management still comes down to calorie balance - balancing the calories you take in with those you burn off through physical activity and exercise.
