Every once in a while a news article will pop up that is focused on gout.  Today, we came across an article by Jane Brody of The New York Times which references a study published late last year on that very topic.  The study alleged a link between what the authors referred to as “fructose-rich” beverages and risk of gout in women.

So we thought we’d clear up any confusion by reminding our readers of the statement ABA issued in response to that study, which you can find here.  When it comes to gout, the fact remains that the strongest risk factor for developing gout is family history.  And a gentle reminder when you read reporting on scientific studies – association is not causation.
