“This is like the nanny state going off the wall.”

“The ban is at the point where it is an infringement of civil liberties.”

Since Mayor Bloomberg announced his plan to ban the sale of soft drinks larger than 16 ounces, New Yorkers and Americans alike have come out of the woodwork to express their disapproval of it. A New York Times poll released this week shows that 6 in 10 New York residents oppose the plan and call it a bad idea. In fact, a majority in every borough oppose it.

It seems that the more New Yorkers learn about the beverage ban, the more they remain vigilant in their opposition. And with the Board of Health expected to pass this proposal in a few weeks, it is more apparent now than ever that it will do so without the support of New Yorkers.
