The beverage industry has a long tradition of giving back to the local communities where we live, work and play. A great example of this is the Fit2Play™ program launched by the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department.

Eight years ago, Fit2Play was launched with the support of the University of Miami and The Children’s Trust. This popular fitness, health and obesity prevention program gives children an opportunity to take part in activities similar to the presidential fitness test held in schools.

“We wanted our after-school program to have an impact on kids,” says program manager Eric Hansen.

Just last year, the Florida Beverage Association awarded the program a grant which has since been used to expand its outreach to kids and parents, as well as provide them with additional support to help them maintain a balanced lifestyle.

“These funds will further supplement their great strides in bettering our children’s lives,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.
