Hyperbole unfortunately all too often trumps fact – particularly when it comes to talking about the myriad beverages made by our member companies. Here’s one such example from LetsClearItUp.org:
MYTH: The obesity epidemic can be reversed if people stop drinking soft drinks.
FACT: All sugar-sweetened beverages account for only 6 percent of calories in the average American’s diet, according to government data. That means that 94 percent of our calories come from other foods and beverages.
We agree that obesity is a complex issue, but focusing on one small piece of the diet is not going to solve the public health challenge. For more information, check out LetsClearItUp.org.
