Old Glory deserves a moment of recognition today as we at Sip & Savor acknowledge Flag Day, meant to celebrate the adoption of our stars and stripes as a national symbol.

While there's no official holiday, you may find a parade or other celebration depending on where you are. Fairfield, Wash., Troy, N.Y. and Quincy, Mass. are home to a few noteworthy parades. And if you're in Philadelphia, a stop in at the Betsy Ross House seems appropriate to learn a little history on the woman that has been credited with making the first American flag.

The National Flag Day Foundation works to “carry on the tradition of the first flag day observance.” On their website, they offer history, photos, ways to get involved and events for the annual event.

Remember to fly your flag all week this week to honor the American symbol and let us know if there’s a Flag Day event in your hometown.  You can comment below or check in with us on Facebook and Twitter.
