Today is Labor Day - and we hope everyone is enjoying their end of summer trips to the beach.  At the same time, we're hoping to share with you a little history about this federal holiday.

Did you know that Labor Day was first observed in 1882 in New York City?  A few years later and at the culmination of a major railroad worker strike, in 1894, President Grover Cleveland worked quickly with Congress to pass legislation that would establish the first Monday in September as a federal holiday in appreciation of workers across the country.  Not long after Labor Day was established federally, states picked up on it and now all 50 states observe Labor Day as a state holiday, too!

So, enjoy your long weekend with family and friends.  Perhaps you can share this story with them!
