On October 12, 1492, Christopher Columbus landed in the New World two months after setting sail from Spain. His intentions had been to chart a course to China and India in search of gold and spices for the Spanish monarchs King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.  Instead, Columbus found himself becoming the first European to explore America since the Viking age.  The story of Columbus is a tale of survival and great achievements, as well as historic controversy.

Today, we commemorate a celebrated explorer, honor the diversity of American heritage and invigorate our sense of adventure.
