In the wake of a New York court striking down the “Soda Ban,” community groups and other organizations have come forward with better way solutions to address obesity in their communities.  Today we came across this article, which describes a new partnership between church and ministry leaders in Brooklyn to encourage their communities to get more active.  An excerpt from the article reads as follows:

“…a group of north Brooklyn church leaders on both sides of the debate developed a strategy to combat the high rates of obesity and heart disease and increase overall wellness in their communities.  The first in a series of events will begin on Saturday, April 13, 2013, noon-5:00 p.m. with Health Matters: Faith & Fitness Expo at the Brooklyn Stuy Dome, a multi-fitness complex adjacent to St. Philip's Christian Church, 765 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn. The Expo will be free and feature activities for all ages, including health screenings, yoga, zumba, basketball, breathing workshops, spiritual aerobics and much more.”

We think this is awesome!  Congratulations and good luck to this group of community leaders as they bring together friends and family for what sounds like a fun-filled afternoon!
