Healthcare workers on the frontline of the fight against COVID-19 are risking their lives every day for their communities. Protecting America’s healthcare workers is a priority, and Coca-Cola Northeast has stepped up to ensure they have the personal protective equipment (PPE) they need. Ray Dube, sustainability manager at Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast, saw an opportunity to provide needed logistics and supply chain support to help nonprofit makerspace MakeIt Labs manufacture face shields for healthcare workers. Dube connected MakeIt volunteers with Coca-Cola plastic recycler UltrePet and packaging manufacturer EasyPak to donate and transport clean PET plastic sheeting to make the specialty protective shields. EasyPak donated approximately 6,000 pounds of clean PET sheeting, and Coke Northeast delivery trucks transported the Coke system’s first large-scale donation of PET sheets. By leveraging its longtime partnerships and the power of Coca-Cola’s distribution network, Coke Northeast is helping to keep healthcare workers safe and protected during the coronavirus crisis.
