In case your week has been exceptionally busy, we wanted to give a gentle reminder about an important day of recognition – Father’s Day.  Since it’s only Friday, you still have some time to make special plans, buy a card - or even a gift, or perhaps just pick up the phone and call home to thank the one who likely taught you some important life lessons. Maybe you even have fond memories of sharing a lemonade on the porch on a hot summer day, or grabbing a cool and refreshing cola at a ball game … we here at Sip & Savor do.

What some may not realize is that there’s a long history to Father’s Day and its official recognition as a national holiday.  Importantly, however, it was President Lyndon B. Johnson who issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers.  That was in 1966.  It wasn’t until six years later that it became a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972.

So whatever you do to pay tribute to dad – or, for our readers who are dads themselves, however your children choose to honor you – we hope you have a refreshing, relaxing and reflective day.
