Today, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we celebrate the man who was not only the leader of the Civil Rights Movement, but also a symbol of hope for so many Americans.

Many of us will be marking this day by reflecting on the life and sacrifice of this great American, and cities across the country are finding their own ways to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Atlanta, King’s birthplace, pays tribute with ten days of celebrations that includes a commemorative march through parts of the city.

In Birmingham, Ala. people will be laying wreaths at Dr. King’s statue and surrounding sculptures at Kelly Ingram Park where he and other civil rights leaders would gather in peaceful protest.

And in Washington, D.C. people travel to the city to make stops at the Lincoln Memorial, where Dr. King delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech, and the memorial commemorating his life not far away.

On this special day we not only pay tribute to a great American; we are also reminded of the lasting and peaceful change he inspired.
