There have been many attempts around the country to pass beverage taxes. So far, none have succeeded.

In California, an effort to pass a tax on more than 350 beverages like soda, sweetened teas, juices and sports drinks did not pass out of committee today in the state legislature. A similar bill proposed in 2010 did not pass.
